1. Introduction

Brock Johnston (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website www.brockjohnston.com (the “Site”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), including the reforms to the Privacy Act commencing 10 December 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site, how we use and disclose it, and how you can access, correct, or make a complaint about that information.

2. Personal information we collect

We collect personal information directly from you when you interact with the Site. The information we collect depends on how you use the Site, and may include:

  • Contact form enquiries — when you submit our contact form (built with Divi 5 and sent via the SMTP2GO email delivery service), we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.
  • Newsletter and digital product sign-ups — when you subscribe to our mailing list or purchase a digital product, your name and email address are collected and stored in MailPoet so we can deliver the product and any related communications.
  • Website usage data — we use Google Analytics and WP Statistics to understand how visitors use the Site. This may include your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, time spent on the Site, referring website, and approximate geographic location.

Photography bookings and quote requests: our Site links out to a separate, independently operated platform, Pixieset (https://brockjohnstonphotographer.mypixieset.com/), for photography booking and quote enquiries. Any personal information you submit on Pixieset (such as your name, contact details, event details, and payment information) is collected and stored by Pixieset, not by us on this Site. Pixieset's own privacy policy and terms govern that information, and we encourage you to review them before submitting your details.

3. How we use your personal information

We use personal information we collect through the Site to:

  • Respond to enquiries submitted through our contact form;
  • Deliver digital products and newsletter content you have signed up to receive;
  • Understand, monitor, and improve how visitors use the Site; and
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

We only send marketing communications to people who have subscribed to receive them, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in each email.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site uses cookies and similar tracking technologies through Google Analytics and WP Statistics to collect information about how visitors use the Site. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Disabling cookies may affect some functionality of the Site.

5. Disclosure of personal information

We may disclose personal information to the following third-party service providers, who process it on our behalf or in their own right:

  • Google (Google Analytics) — website analytics. Google may process this data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States.
  • WP Statistics — website usage analytics.
  • MailPoet — email newsletter and digital product delivery.
  • SMTP2GO — transactional email delivery for our contact form.
  • Pixieset — an independent, third-party platform used for photography booking and quote requests. Personal information submitted via Pixieset is collected and held by Pixieset directly.

Where personal information may be disclosed to or processed by overseas recipients (for example, Google), we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient handles that information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, as required by APP 8. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

6. Data storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Access and correction

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting us using the details in Section 11. We will respond to your request within a reasonable period and in accordance with the APPs. There is no charge for lodging a request for access or correction.

8. Data breaches

If we experience a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to individuals whose personal information is affected, we will comply with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.

9. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

11. Complaints and contact us

If you have a question, concern, or complaint about how we handle your personal information, please contact us at hello@brockjohnston.com. We will investigate and respond to your complaint within a reasonable timeframe.
