About

Canberra-based photographer and digital consultant. No agency, no handoffs, just one person who does good work for organisations that need it done well.

THE PERSON BEHIND THE WORK

I'm Brock Johnston, a Canberra-based photographer and digital consultant. Two service lines that don't usually sit under one name, corporate photography, and iMIS, WordPress and SharePoint consulting for associations, but for me they've always come from the same place: working closely with organisations and the people who run them.

Who I am, quickly

I'm a Canberra-based photographer and digital consultant working almost exclusively with associations, peak bodies and non-profits across Australia. On the photography side, that means corporate headshots, executive portraits and team photography. On the consulting side, it means iMIS, WordPress and SharePoint work built around how membership organisations actually operate. Both are delivered by me directly, no studio, no agency, no handoffs.

How I Got Here

My background is in the association sector itself, not agency-side. Some of my earliest and most formative work was as IT Manager at the Australian Library and Information Association, where I designed and built an intranet spanning 30 connected sites. That experience shaped how I still approach every project: practical, well-documented, built around how a small team actually works day to day, not around what looks impressive in a pitch.

From there, I moved into implementation consulting more broadly, working across iMIS projects for associations and non-profits, and became CiP-certified along the way. I went fully independent at the end of 2025.

Photography came back into my life more recently, after some years away from it. I brought the same approach to it that I'd already built on the consulting side: one person, properly done, no handing sessions off to a second shooter or a junior editor.

Two service lines, one throughline. Whether it's a headshot or a membership database, the work is the same underneath: helping an organisation, and the people who represent it, come across as well as they actually are.

Qualifications that back it up

CiP

Certified iMIS Professional. A rare certification in Australia, held rather than claimed.

CTCA

Certified TopClass Administrator, covering LMS work for associations running TopClass alongside or instead of iMIS.

ASI iMIS TALENT POOL

A vetted member of ASI's official iMIS consultant talent pool.

The Approach Behind Both

No HandOffs

Every project, photography or consulting, is delivered by the person you spoke to at the start. No account managers, no studio assistants, no one else quietly finishing the work.

Honest about Scope

I'd rather tell you what I'm not the right fit for than stretch a claim to win the work. iMIS is a big platform and nobody knows all of it, and I'd rather say so than pretend otherwise.

Built to last

Whether it's a headshot delivered through Pixieset or a WordPress site handed over with proper documentation, the work should still make sense in a few years, not just on launch day.

Two ways to work together

Whichever one brought you here, the other might be useful too.
